Shanghai scientists develop calcium-oxygen battery that lasts 700 recharge cycles

On Feb 7, 2024 research by a team of scientists from Fudan University in Shanghai was published on the website of the journal Nature that Calcium–oxygen batteries (Ca-O2) can theoretically afford high capacity by the reduction of oxygen (O2) to calcium oxide compounds (CaOx) at low cost.
Due to the shortage and price fluctuation of lithium-ion battery material, it is important to find cheap, abundant, safe, and sustainable battery chemistries. These new tech battery can charge and discharge fully 700 times at room temperature, which could offer a cheaper and more sustainable alternative to lithium-ion battery technology.
